Year 5 Key Information

Welcome to Year 5

5M Class Teacher - Mrs Murphy                    5N Class Teacher - Miss Naqvi

Year 5 is a happy and exciting place to be. We treat everyone with kindness and respect, we love learning and we always have fun.

Different faiths and cultures are represented in our classes, which means that we can all learn from each other.

In Year 5, we learn how to be leaders with Play Leader training from Sports UK, enabling us to engage children on the KS1 playground with fun games and activities. We also support children in the dinner hall as Lunchtime Ambassadors in our special aprons, demonstrating good table manners and making sure the younger children have good role models when they are eating. Finally, we are also Reading Buddies for children in Year 1, encouraging reading for pleasure with younger pupils.

Our favourite subject is reading, especially our current class novel ‘Holes’. We are also a class that is very passionate about sport, especially football, cricket and horse riding.

Make sure you have a look at what we have been learning on our termly class pages.

Important information

PE days this year are Mondays and Wednesdays. Children should come to school dressed in their PE uniform and trainers suitable for outdoor sporting activities. Please remember to leave earrings at home on these days, particularly if your child can't remove them by themselves. If earrings can't be removed, please provide plasters to cover them.

Our year group will have swimming lessons later in the school year.

Please make sure your child has a filled water bottle every day, particularly on PE days.

Homework

Maths - continue to focus on times tables - an essential skill for Year 5 maths. You can log into TT Rockstars to keep practising.

Reading - children should read aloud at least four times a week (preferably daily) for a minimum of 10 minutes. Please record reading in Reading Records, which should be brought to school daily. Children change their own books from the 100 Recommended Reads selection when they have finished.

Spellings - will be set via the Idle Spelling Bee. Honeycombs will sent home and tested every three weeks in conjunction with our English Learning Journey. Please encourage your child to learn these spellings as they are Year 5/6 Statutory words.

Pupil Roles

Pupil roles in school give children the opportunity to have their say in the running of our school. School Councillors are democratically voted by their class to represent them and help our Senior Leadership Team with making important decisions about our school.
